Altos de la Hoya Monastrell

The first vintage for this wine, Altos de la Hoya, was in the millennial year of 2000. Since that first vintage this wine has received very good ratings, mainly from Robert Parker, with it not receiving less than 90 points in the Wine Advocate. Not bad for a six quid bottle, hey?

Tasting Notes : The elegant nose shows black fruits, primarily sweet blackberries, smoky fruit and espresso. The palate is full-bodied, and well balanced with ripe tannins and a long finish.

Producer : Bodegas Olivares

Method of Production : The handpicked grapes were transferred to tank as whole bunches and allowed to cold macerate for a brief period before being brought up temperature (around 25°C) for the fermentation to begin. After five days the wine was pressed from the skins and transferred to French oak barrels where malolactic conversion occurred and six months maturation. The wine was then bottled without filtering.
