Château Charron 'Les Gruppes'

Les Gruppes hails from 50 year old vines growing on a patch of chalky clay soils containing a high proportion of surface limestone. These white rocks reflect the heat of the sun, aiding ripening and helping develop those plum / raspberry-like flavours found in all good Merlots.

Tasting Notes : Aromas of plum jam, sandalwood, spice and raspberries fill the nose. The medium to full-bodied palate is rich and ripe with great intensity of flavour and a long, smoke-tinged finish.

Method of Production : The vineyards are managed 'lutte raisonee', meaning artificial pesticides are used only when absolutely necessary. Picked at full ripeness, the grapes were sorted, destemmed, crushed and cold macerated before fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. The wine was removed from the solids, then went through malolactic conversion. 60% of the blend remained in contact with the yeast lees and maturation took place in 400L oak barrels before bottling.
