ABOUT THIS WINE: The Peymartin estate covers 50 hectares in the St Julien appellation of Bordeaux, which lies on the banks of the river Gironde. The wine is mainly made from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties, hand picked from 40-year-old vines. It shows classic St Julien aromas of tobacco and cassis fruit, but marries this with forceful, full-bodied flavours of cooked meat, baked herbs and roasted plums.
Because 2003 was a very warm year in Bordeaux and often gave alcoholic, imbalanced wines, it was only those producers who focused on quality who did well. Château Peymartin is the second wine of Château Gloria, a property renowned for its quality, and owner Henri Martin certainly made the best of this vintage.
This robust but elegant style of red would make a great match for a roast leg of lamb or sirloin steak.
Licensing Act 2003: it is an offence for any person under 18 years to buy or attempt to buy alcohol
