More Information
the vintage that preceded the feted 2005 is proving very good value, and the wines are already drinking nicely. This merlot based blend is sumptuous, chocolately and rich without being over the top. Good now or will keep another few years. Recommended by Victoria Moore, ''One to lust after'' The Guardian, September 2008
ABOUT THIS WINE: The Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux has always been highly acclaimed for succulent texture, balance and structure. This superb example was made by Nathalie Moueix-Guillot from an 18 hectare plot of 35 year old vines. She has blended 75% Merlot for softer roundness; 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives fine body and classic blackcurrant flavour and 5% Cabernet Franc for freshness. The wine was matured in 50% new French oak barrels for 18 months to add complexity and help integrate the supple tannins. The wine has been minimally treated to preserve the flavour and may throw a harmless deposit.
SERVING: Serve at room temperature. This is a perfect partner for red meat, especially roast leg of lamb, although it makes a good match for roast poultry or moderately mature cheeses.
KEEPING: This wine has been released ready to drink, although it will become more rounded and mature with five years cellaring if kept in a cool, dark place. Once opened, finish within two days, resealing the bottle between servings.
Licensing Act 2003: it is an offence for any person under 18 years to buy or attempt to buy alcohol
