ABOUT THIS WINE: Our wine buyers have been busy rooting around the rural backwaters of southern France to find great-value wines to rival the best the New World has to offer. This savoury, characterful red is exactly the kind of wine we're after.
It comes from the Montpeyroux village, a Roman settlement which sits at the foot of the Grands Causses highlands in the warm, picturesque landscape of Languedoc Roussillon. As well as the kind of ripe fruit flavours you'd expect from a New World red at this level, here you also have hints of black olives, fresh meat and smoked herbs, all of which is typical of wines from this southern French region.
SERVING: This is a mid-weight wine with some firm tannin which would suit a dish like lamb chops or spaghetti Bolognese.
