(Hamish Anderson's wine choice to pair with Broad Beans on Toast). The intensity of the smoky bacon is the key ingredient in this dish; Pinot Gris is one of my favourite matches for anything smoked. The peachy, opulent side of this wine balances the salty, smoky bacon, while its clean, mineral aftertaste refreshes. Recommended by Hamish Anderson, The Telegraph, August 2008.
ABOUT THIS WINE: The pretty Alsace region of eastern France is rightly renowned for its fine, unoaked, aromatic white wines. This delicious noticeably fruity example has been made from 100% Pinot Grigio (otherwise known as Pinot Gris) grapes, and deliberately crafted in a dry, refreshing style. The winemaker was Michel Lihrmann of the famous Cave de Turckheim in Alsace. this wine has been sealed with a screw cap, our aim is to choose the most suitable closure.
SERVING: Serve this wine lightly chilled, either on its own as an aperitif or with white fish, green vegetables such as asparagus or quiches and savoury tarts.
KEEPING: Enjoy this wine within 6 months of purchase, while those fruity flavours are lively and young. Once opened, finish in 2 days, keeping the resealed bottle in the fridge.
