Piana del Sole Negroamaro

A speciality of southern Italy, Negroamaro (meaning 'bitter black') could hardly be more Italian in its combination of perfume and bite. With touches of farminess on the nose, this ripe and round incarnation almost has touch of New World Pinot about it? NB that's the kind of blockbuster New World Pinot Noir that gives Burgundy lovers nightmares!
Tasting Notes : The nose has aromas of vanilla pod, blackcurrants and mushrooms. The palate starts off with stewed damsons with touches of smoky bacon and finishes up with a bitter plum skin bite.
Producer : Piana del Sole - Tenute Rubino
Method of Production : Estate grown grapes were machine harvested, destemmed, crushed and macerated on skins before being fermented in stainless steel tanks at 29ºC. Malolactic conversion was encouraged, and the wine was matured on its lees in a combination of stainless steel tanks and barrels. The wine was fined and filtered before bottling.
