One of the finest Islay malts with increadible depth of flavour and a peatiness that zips around your palate. If you are looking for an Islay without the pungency of Laphroaig but with real character then this is the one for you.

Tasting Notes : Big, rich and peaty with a long dry finish, not as medicinal as some Islays.
Producer : Ardbeg
Method of Production : The water sources are the lochs Uigeadail and Iarnam, the casks American and the peat is bought in from Port Ellen. There is only one wash still and one spirit still, so production is small. The finished whisky is not chill filtered as this removes some of the flavour, so there will be a very slight haze if you add water to the whisky.

What The Press Say

'A malt throbbing with aroma and flavour that delivers waves of peaty smoke threaded with Islay's iodine, seaweed and salty notes.' (Scotland on Sunday, Martin Isark, June 2002 19/06/2002)

Product Reviews

This is undoubtly the King of Islay Malts! I have tried them all, and this just beats Laphroaig and Lagavulin (both excellent): - Try the 17 year-old!

Absolutely the best single malt I have tried, complexity and yet a smooth rounded finish. Wish I lived on Islay.

Stonking base-level Islay - you can keep your Bowmores, Bruichladdichs and Bunnahabhains; for a truly phenolic monster with a silky lingering finish this'll do the job every time.

Ardbeg, Ardbeg, Ardbeg, is their anything out there better than our beloved Ardbeg? Peat and that slightly medicinal taste with a hint of spice that just works wonders! Just pop it open and smell that sea air. Oh yeah, the answer's no.

Slightly medicinal, peaty as hell, bloody fantastic! The ultimate Islay malt: it does exactly what it says on the tin.
